La Lagunilla es un lugar de mercadeo emblemático de la Ciudad de México, donde se ofertan antigüedades. Aquí acuden seres que le atribuyen valor al tiempo y a su trascendencia. Descubrimos historias que no son nuestras y nos hacen pensar que todo acto creativo puede perderse en escenarios sin reglas hasta ser resignificado por alguien más. Este espacio nos muestra una potencial belleza en lo cotidiano del objeto.
Este proyecto se enfoca en documentar la relevancia del tiempo y el apego a la materia, representados por objetos, naturalezas muertas, paisajes urbanos y personajes que allí gravitan. Todo esto forma parte de ese interés generado por la melancolía de crear nuevas historias que reviven la energía de vidas pasadas, de dueños y sueños anteriores en las memorias de ayer y hoy.
Además de ser un testimonio documental, este proyecto es una búsqueda personal de la pérdida, la ausencia y el olvido.
La Lagunilla is an iconic antique market in Mexico City. It draws a crowd that lends value to time and its transcendence. Here we can come across stories unlike our own that make us realize that creative actions are often overlooked in contexts with no predetermined set of rules—that is, until someone resignifies these actions. This space reveals a potential beauty in the everydayness of objects.
This project focuses on documenting the relevance of time and the attachment of people to materials—represented in objects, still-lifes, cityscapes, etc. However, it also documents the characters that gravitate to the market. All of this forms part of an interest based on melancholy and the need to create new stories reviving the energy of past lives, of owners and dreams of yesteryear in the memories of yesterday and today.
In addition to its documentary aim, this project is a personal examination of loss, absence and forgetfulness.
(Ciudad de México, 1979) Estudió Diseño Industrial en la Universidad Anáhuac. Cursó talleres de fotografía. Su trabajo ha sido exhibido en México, Estados Unidos, Canadá, Irán, India, Suiza y Sudáfrica. Obtuvo mención honorífica en la II Bienal de Fotografía Oaxaca y el Premio al mejor fotógrafo documental en las Festividades del Bicentenario y Centenario 2010. (Mexico City, 1979) Cardona studied industrial design at the Universidad Anáhuac and has taken photography workshops. His work has been shown in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Iran, India, Switzerland and South Africa. He received an honorable mention at Oaxaca’s II Bienal de Fotografía as well as the award for best documentary photographer at Mexico’s Bicentennial and Centennial Festivities of 2010.
